The results of the first year (November and December 2023) were successfully integrated into the input data set in the configuration of the profiles of future PhitoApp users. A significant part of the research, especially those regarding the vulnerability of the inhabitants and especially of the small and medium-sized farmers in the counties of Iași and Botoșani in the face of natural hazards were integrated into the development plan of the Phito Beta Version on two levels: (i) both as elements of configuration of the questionnaire applied between June and August 2024 to farmers in the two counties and (ii) the integration of thematic cartographic materials of natural hazards and risks associated with them as particularly important layers in the configuration of the Phito application.
During 2024, corresponding to the second phase of the project, two articles were published, for the time being in abstract form, as "conference papers". The full publication of the two articles is scheduled for 2025, due to the long waiting times for prestigious journals, but also to quite long periods for their final writing and editing. These reinforcements were also due to the attraction of two researchers with great experience in the field to the team of authors: Prof. Dr. Paolo Tarolli from the University of Padua, Italy, the WP3 leader of the PHITO – Horizont Europe project from which this contract derived, and Prof. dr. Jianshuang WU from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Beijing, China, an active collaborator of the research team of this contract.
Executive summary of the activities carried out during the implementation period
During the implementation period of the project "Platform for supporting small and medium-sized farmers for the incorporation of digital technologies for equal opportunities", all the activities necessary to achieve the proposed objectives were carried out. These objectives were designed so that their results contribute to a better knowledge of the needs of cartographic and remote sensing data by the different categories (different profiles) of small and medium-sized farmers in the north-east of Romania, respectively in the agricultural system of Iasi and Botoșani counties.
For the questionnaires applied in 2023, statistical analyses were carried out to validate certain specific trends for each type of farmer. For the questionnaires that were carried out in 2024, these being common with all the other 7 agricultural systems of the Phito Horizont project, a series of over 20 meetings were held with farmers from the two counties, mostly hosted by the municipalities of the communes. At all these meetings there were a series of phases that were applied everywhere, namely: the presentation of the main objectives of the Phito Horizont project, the presentation of its objectives for the Iași-Boroșani agricultural system, the relationships between the phases of farm management and the use of digital technologies, the completion (online and/or on paper) of the questionnaire, questions and discussions on the impact of natural hazards in the past and future perspectives regarding the reduction of natural hazards. The cartographic and remote sensing databases were built following a specific "knowledge based" effort, checking their availability, in compliance with all legal and copyright protection aspects.
